Por un paquete de Celtas es la historia de un muchacho que ve cómo su madre sufre esa violencia, cómo él la sufre, y cómo huirá de casa para evitar una relación familiar dolorosa, y esa huida marcará fuertemente su vida. Juan Gil Palao conoce bien el tema por su profesión, en la que a diario trata con las víctimas en los juzgados, y por experiencia propia. Su relato será terapéutico para algunas personas, revelador para la mayoría. Afirma en el prólogo Francisco Javier Illán Vivas: “En él tenemos la certeza de que nos lo contará como quien observa, sabiendo como sabemos que realmente él lo ha vivido. Destaca en Juan Gil Palao su destreza expositiva, conseguida a través de la experiencia personal de contarnos la historia desde lo más profundo, de no intentar nada que distorsione lo vivido y llenar, eso sí, los espacios temporales que como lectores desconocemos, de las escenas que nos ayuden a conocer, o reconocer si es el caso, la realidad que nos narra. Este es un libro en el que no siempre las víctimas son reconocidas como tales, y en las que hay verdugos que pueden salvarse de la merecida condena por su belleza o una supuesta fragilidad. Es la radiografía del mundo actual hecha por alguien que sabe mucho de víctimas. Hay más temas que el lector encontrará en estas páginas, son relatos de temática variada, pero siempre atentos a las más hondas preocupaciones del ser humano.
